Wish I had a chimney
Hanging in my studio will have to do for now...but here it is—my first stocking is complete!
I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. I finished off the top band with an felt "A" that I traced and cut out. The "A" is the only part I'm not sure if I like, I am contemplating taking it off and just adding a vintage button or something to designate who's is who's. What does everyone think?
The stocking wasn't too difficult to make once I got all the steps straight in my head. I made a pattern piece based on my childhood stocking that I borrowed from my mom.
Once I had all the pieces cut and sewn together, I just placed one stocking inside the other...
So the red-on-white fabric became the lining of the stocking and the fold-over flap.
Now I just have one more to make for myself and then I thought I'd quickly do a mini-stocking for each of "the boys"—yes, dogs, cats, and fish, all get stockings in our house.
Yeah, still not sure about that felt letter...thoughts friends?

this is fabulous! :)
just looking at the fabric, im thinking vintage buttons would be wonderful!
either way it is super-cute. i love that fabric!

I really like the A! Maybe some little buttons running up its right side?...like red and white ones, yummy =) Great job!

If your unhappy with the letter then try making it out of the darker red fabric and add a button or something. I think the stocking looks great.
I wish I had a chimney too.

Great stocking! Love how the lining folds over to make the top band. I think I like the letter but the green is what is throwing you off. I would try red. or make the letter A using small red buttons. (I also love that fabric.)

That is really cute! I love the detail of the felt "A"--jazzes it up a bit. :)

maybe a lowercase serif "a" in something like clarendon or mrs. eaves? or maybe red stiching on the letter to tie it in with the fabric? but overall, i think it's great!

i think it's adorable! and I like the A..but perhaps adding the buttons to the A would make it that much better. I think it's at least something to play around with..some sort of embellishment.
otherwise, I think it's great! and yes, Ashes has her own stocking, too. haha.

If you are worried about knowing whose stocking is whose, what about making yours out of the white fabric with red as the lining and the cuff?

This is darling. My first thought was that the letter should be in Red- my second thought was to keep the green, but use red and white embroidery floss to do a blanket stitch or whip stitch around the outside of the letter to tie it in with the stocking. Perhaps you are not crazy about the inital on the stocking as it looks like an afterthought instead of being part of the design. The whip stitch or blanket stitch will bring it all together.

Fabulous work! I like the letter - it's nice to have it personalised in that way - maybe stitch on a red felt flower or something next to it with some green leaves so that it doesn't clash as much? Though really, it doesn't bother me at all. I'd be happy making something that looks so lovely!
